NH GOFFSTOWN — Conservation Commission rejects Namaske Lake milfoil treatment funding request. Select Board Representative Richard Manzo requested $50,000 from the town's Conservation Fund to cover the town's share of a $125,000 milfoil treatment in 2027, citing the fund's historical 50 to 75 percent matching arrangement with the Namaske Lake Association. Commission member David Nieman argued the fund may only be expended for land and easement acquisition under RSA 36-A and the 2007 voter-approved warrant article; Manzo countered that broader statutory language authorizing protection of natural resources encompassed the treatment.
Alternate member Courtney Carter added that approving $50,000 from a $290,000 fund for a recurring annual problem would impair the Commission's core mission and establish a dangerous precedent. The Commission communicated consensus that the fund could not be used for milfoil treatment, both as a matter of law and fiscal stewardship.
